Reader’s Question:

I never let my car insurance policy here in Nevada lapse because that’s the only way I know I can keep it low. Can you give me some other ways on how to lower my car insurance rates?

Hadley

Reno, NV

Aside from not letting your car insurance policy in Nevada lapses, here are some other ways on how to lover your car insurance rates:

1. Make sure that your vehicle is fully equipped with security devices such as daytime running lights, alarms, anti-lock brakes and other safety features. If you have these things on your vehicle, inform your car insurance carrier about this so that you can get a discount for it.

2. The mode of payment you choose can be a factor on how much you pay for your car insurance. You can have lower car insurance if you opt to have Electronic Funds Transfer or EFT. This method will allow your bank to credit your insurer with your payment automatically.

3. Reduce the amount of time that you spend in driving because the lesser the time you are on the road, the lower the risk you have on car insurance companies. Remember that lower risk drivers have lower payment on their car insurance. If you spend less on driving, you will have lower chances of getting involved in traffic accidents.

4. You should obtain and compare car insurance quotes from a minimum of three comparison quotes Websites. This process will not take too much of your time as you only have to give your personal information once every Website and you will receive several car insurance quotes from them.

Car Declared Totaled By Auto Insurance Company Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

I was involved in an accident here in Nevada, and my car was declared totaled by my auto insurance company. They want to pay off my car but we cannot agree on a price. What should I do?

Bonnie

Reno, NV

The first thing to do is to check out the website of the Nevada Department of Insurance. Here, you will find a list of your rights as a policyholder. Since all states control car insurance companies to an extent to protect your rights as to avoid getting cheated when you file for a claim, you should be able to get ample information on the website regarding just settlement of insurance claims.

Next thing to do is to check your appraisal provision. This allows you to get an independent assessment on the damage to your car. Once the independent assessment and that of your insurer is available, a third party or umpire jointly chosen by your independent appraiser and car insurer will step in to decide if the insurer and independent appraiser cannot agree on the car’s value. You will have to pay for the independent appraiser’s fees, though. You also have to shoulder a part of the umpire’s fees. But if you really feel you are being shortchanged by your insurance provider, paying extra may prove to be worth it.

If you still do not agree to the price set by the two parties, talk to a senior adjuster in the car insurance company. You can ask help from the state insurance commissioner, too. Another option is to take your case to arbitration, or you may even file a lawsuit.

Misplaced Auto Insurance Policy Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

Hi there. I kinda misplaced my auto insurance policy and I’ve forgotten when it expires, so I’m not really sure if I’m still covered. What’s gonna happen if I get caught without insurance in Nevada? Can I go to jail for this?

Andy

Las Vegas, NV

Well, Andy, I do hope you find your auto insurance policy soon. It’s really not safe to be out in the streets without the proper insurance. Why don’t you call your auto insurance agent in Nevada as I’m pretty sure he can give you a copy of your papers? You have to keep your insurance ID card in your car at all times if you want to drive legally in the state of Nevada. If you get caught by the police, and you don’t have your insurance card, they can suspend your vehicle’s registration. It’s gonna cost you more to have your registration reinstated. Also, the DMV guys can remove your license plates if they find out that you do not have auto insurance. They may also have your car impounded. Worse, if you get into an accident and your auto insurance has lapsed, you’re gonna have to pay for everything. And believe me, it can cost tons of bucks! Think about hospital bills, car repair bills, legal fees if you get sued. It’s gonna be a lot more paperwork and cost a lot more money to have things fixed. So please, try and find your auto insurance ID card or just pick up the phone and ask your agent.

Reader’s Question:

I heard some rumor that black cars command higher auto insurance premiums in Henderson, Nevada. Is this true?

Barney

Henderson, NV

Nope, Barney, no! It is exactly just that – a rumor, but probably one of the more famous rumors when it comes to auto insurance.

Rumors really (no, really!) have a way of getting around town, I tell you. Probably in the old days, some naughty trickster had this idea for a joke and it just got stuck! Over the years everybody mentioned it to somebody else and you know what they say, if you repeat something often enough, you will get to believe it as truth. This is probably what happened, and thus was born auto insurance’s greatest myths.

Fortunately for you, Barney, auto insurers in Henderson, Nevada did not care for this rumor, otherwise you may not go after the color of the car you want most because of the potentially high auto insurance premiums it can cost. Auto insurance companies in Henderson, Nevada will look at the type and make of your car, including engine type, age of car, mileage and the features of the car such as alarm systems, air bags and similar other features. These will all determine the auto insurance premium that will be asked from you, of course these things will all be contrasted against the type of coverage you want for your vehicle and your driving (and sometimes even your credit) history as well.

You can solicit for free quotes from this page by simply entering your zip code on the blank space that you see on this page, Barney.

Reader’s Question:

My mom has promised to buy me a car after I graduate from high school. It will just be a second-hand car, nothing fancy. Will I still be required to get auto insurance in Paradise, NV?

Ron

Paradise, NV

Ahoy to you, Ron! How’s Paradise?

Sorry to bust you, buddy, but you will still be required to get auto insurance, even if it is an old clunker you will have. When you register your car in the Department of Motor Vehicles, they will require you to show proof of auto insurance. Don’t worry too much about it though, because they only require the least coverage in town and that is called liability coverage. Because it offers minimum coverage, it naturally commands least premiums as well, sounds appealing, right? For someone like you who is on a budget (I am just assuming here), this liability coverage will be ideal and since you will probably not care very much about your car’s appearance, you don’t really have to get the other types of coverage like collision coverage and other more comprehensive coverage. To find out what offers you can get in Paradise, Nevada, simply provide your zip code on the blank space you see on this page.

Never forget, Ron, that even the cheapest auto insurance (which is liability auto insurance) will still have the cheapest option among them. So don’t be lazy and do the necessary comparison among proposals you will get from various insurers in Paradise, Nevada. Just do this once before you apply for an auto insurance policy to ensure that you will have a grand time driving in… Paradise!

Teen Car Insurance Rates Las Vegas Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

My teenage daughter just started driving in Las Vegas, Nevada NV. We have bought her a car and are now planning to add her to our existing car insurance policy. Will this severely increase our premiums?

Diana

Las Vegas, NV

There are 5 main factors that can help keep your premium to a bare minimum after adding your teen to your car insurance policy.

1. Good grades: Teens who maintain an average of B or better do receive up to 25% discounts on their insurance from most providers. This is an excellent incentive for your daughter; just tell her she gotta do B or better or her driving privileges might be revoked!

2. Your premium is going to increase when you add a teen driver to your policy, but that increase is mere pennies compared to what it could become if your teen were to get involved in an accident or even a minor violation like running a red light or speeding. A clean driving record will not only keep insurance costs at bay but will also give you peace of mind when your child is behind the wheels.

3. Lower your deductibles! This way significant savings can be made on your insurance. All drivers on the policy must then be even more careful not to be involved in accidents as the deductible is the amount you will be paying before the insurance provider covers the rest of the damage. Make sure you let your daughter know that accidents are now less affordable. However, if you are sure you can avoid accidents, lowering your deductibles can save you a lot of money.

4. Remember that newer cars are more expensive to insure, no matter how tempting it might be to buy your teen a new car with all the latest safety features. Most insurance companies let you assign drivers to specific cars. If your provider allows you to do so, assign and make your teen drive the oldest car on the policy. Furthermore, while your child is still registered as a teen driver on the policy and your premiums are high, you and any other drivers on your policy should not consider buying new cars.

Finally, be sure to evaluate your policy at least once every year to make sure all the information is up-to-date. The rates of your car insurance in Las Vegas, Nevada NV is about certain to decrease when your child graduates from high school or turns 18 and you might even opt to remove them from the policy if they go off to college and do not drive at all while there.

I suggest you do a little comparison before you decide to stick with your current insurer if you plan to have teen car insurance. This website can help you get free quotes online by using the rates form located in this page.

Reader’s Question:

I am from Paradise Nevada NV and I don’t own a car. I would like to know if it is possible for me to acquire car insurance, because I do drive sometimes when I’m going to the city or rent a car from rental companies.

David

Paradise, NV

This is a very wonderful question from you. Actually there is one product that fits to your needs, it is called non-owners insurance policy. This is the best product for people who do not own a car but into driving. It is a short term protection product, which protects the policy holder when driving occasionally in Paradise Nevada NV.

When driving a car that is not yours the primary concern of the insurance is the car it self and you will pay for the excess billings which will not be able to cover by the insurance value. If you often rent a vehicle and together with it purchase the coverage they offer, it is not a very good move for you in the long run it will turn out to be more costly than getting a non-owner’s Insurance policy in Paradise Nevada NV. The non-owners insurance policy is not only limited to mere-accidents while driving the car of a rental-company but it is capable to cover any vehicle you are driving

For better and cost effective shopping ask your local agents in Paradise Nevada NV before buying one for yourself. Also, check the range of coverage if you decided to choose the cheapest non-owner’s policy. It would greatly help you if you start shopping online before you make any purchase. Auto Insurance Lead Spring Valley Nevada NV

Reader’s Question:

I came all the way from Florida to settle down in Spring Valley Nevada NV. This is my first time to shop for auto insurance in this city then. I would greatly appreciate if anyone could feed me with basic things to follow when getting an insurance policy here.

Noel

Spring Valley, NV

Be reminded that there are insurance policies that differ from state to state, which means you may find a number of relative differences with your auto insurance in Spring Valley Nevada NV as compared to the one you had in Florida This is so because every state has set its own requirements.

In Nevada, they require all of its drivers to have at least minimum liability policy, which is 15/30/10. To elaborate this proportion, these means fifteen thousand dollars would be paid for by the insurance company for a single physically injured person. Thirty thousand dollars would then be for combined expenses for all bodily damages and ten thousand dollars for both private and public property damaged in an accident.

This indirectly states that the cost of repair to your own vehicle will not be covered by liability insurance policy hence it is highly recommended that you get yourself a comprehensive policy to compensate the minimum policy that you got in Spring Valley, NV. As such, comprehensive coverage will pay for repairs on a vehicle up to Kelley Blue Book value and for amount beyond that point, your auto insurer would decide on the car amount. Then the car insurer will pay the owner the equivalent cash amount as decided by the insurer.

On top of this, there is such a thing as gap coverage in Spring Valley, NV, which you may want to purchase as well if your vehicle’s blue value is less than the amount remaining on your lien. Such is intended to bridge the gap between the amounts covered by comprehensive policy and the amount indebted on a lien if vehicle must be totaled.
